Dear Friends,
Something beautiful is gathering. Across countries, cultures, and many different walks of life, people are coming together for seven days around a shared inquiry: What becomes possible when we meet healing with less striving, and more flow?
We’re delighted to welcome you into this collective field of practice and exploration.
We begin together this Sunday, Sept 13 at 9:00 AM PT, with an orientation call — a chance to meet one another, share reflections, glimpse the arc of the week ahead, and begin cultivating this field together through a short qigong practice.
Guiding the flow will be your pod hosts:
Cynthia Li, a medical doctor and qigong teacher whose personal health crises brought her ever deeper into questions like, What is healing? What is the essence of our bodies? How does awakening relate to healing?
Sarah Tulivu, a peace activist and qigong teacher who realized, while serving in humanitarian conflict zones, that inner peace was essential to outer peace, and spent six years of immersive monastic training in a Tao Temple in Guatemala.
Pavi Mehta, a writer and poet who has co-anchored several ServiceSpace initiatives, ever curious about designing systems for generosity, whose deep healing journey led her to qigong.
We will also be joined by a special guest:
Madhu Anziani, a musician and ceremonialist whose firsthand experience of healing from quadriplegia, with energy and sound healing to complement medical interventions, continues to guide his life and work.
Please RSVP below and the details will land in your inbox.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday and embarking together into effortless healing!
Cynthia Li: And another I will introduce to you now, Sarah Tulivu. I met Sarah a few years ago online when she was a guest on Awaken Calls, which is the podcast series for this service-based ecosystem. Sarah is an advanced Qigong and Tai Chi teacher who, at the age of 17, had left home and began traveling the world with her suitcase. Often to areas of humanitarian crises and war zones.
As she served these communities, she came to realize that the outer conditions of the world are a reflection of our collective inner humanity, and that she was a part of that. She began some deep inquiry into herself, saw the parts that were at war within herself. And in her words, the judgments, the ignorance, the expectations. And that she was also at war with war.
At 23, she immersed herself in monastic training in a Dao temple in Guatemala, and she would be there for 6 years with Master Dao from Taiwan. In 2019, she ventured back into the bigger world, got her first smartphone, and she has been sharing her wisdom and compassion with wider circles. Our pod is blessed to have her. Sarah?
Sarah Tulivu: Thank you. It's been such a loving experience to prepare this plant together. Massinka and Pavi and more. It's really filled with care.
I hope you feel that in going through this experience together this week. I was asked to tell a bit of my story, and also how that ties into Qigong, and the journey we are heading into together this week. My journey began with a strong drive of service. And a really strong wish for peace.
When I was a teenager, I was quite active in activism environments. And later then, got fully immersed in the humanitarian work in conflict areas. I was in East Africa first and happened to be in a war situation, unplanned, and maybe this was at the end of 2007, maybe. And I had the experience of how it was to be in the situation that I had only heard about or seen in movies.
And it was not like in movies. And so I got very inspired to dedicate to these spaces, where very few people went. And I spent a couple of years then throughout West Asia, what is also called the Middle East, and particularly in those lands. And after working in these spaces over the first couple of years, I started feeling perhaps we didn't need to create new systems of new systems, new systems of government or community.
Not from the state we were in anyway, and not from our ideologies, even if they were about peace. Because I started noticing that my beliefs came from a culture of separation. And they still carried those patterns. And any system that would be created out of that would still carry that.
That pattern. So it became clear to me that I needed to heal the modes in which I was operating from. Or anything that I would be creating with my outer activity would be replicating. As I mentioned, the usual ways.
I felt like before creating new systems, or alongside it at least. We needed to tap into the underlying intelligence, the intelligence that made us. With the intelligence. Essence of life itself.
And let that knowing humble the self. And the self that needs to be this or that, or do this or that. So we can become more available for that essence, that intelligence, to move through us. And operate through us.
And then see what happens. We wish for something new and different in these times that we call crisis or collapse. And if we wish for something new and different, we need to allow for something new and different. So, empty of attachment to our outcome or identification with the actor or the action.
Soften our rigid boundaries, and then Flow can take over. And for that, I find that practice is essential. With practice, we are growing into these ripples of coherence. And I hope that the pod can become lots of that.
And each one of us. Ripples of coherence. And we're agents of peace. I will pass to Pavi.
Thank you for your attention and presence, and for bringing…
