Kindness Challenge
Starts Feb 12, 2023!
Is the world a friendly place or a scary place?
Last summer, a Gallup report surveying 127K people around the world found 1 in 5 adults don't have anyone they can count on for help. Research finds that people consistently underestimate how much it means to others when they unexpectedly reach out to them. Human nature is often portrayed as selfish and power-hungry, but a growing body of research finds that we are wired to be kind. Countless instances of goodwill unfold right under our noses, but can it be in our habit to see and nurture them?
At the heels of a global pandemic and a world compounded with global emergencies, how can we individually and collectively mirror the interconnections embedded in our shared humanity? As Valentine's Day approaches, how might we expand our circles of care beyond immediate loved ones? To explore that question, a crew of people around the world are embarking on an 11-day-Kindness Challenge -- and you're invited!
How It Works: Each day, for 11 days in a row, you'll receive an email with an idea for a unique act of kindness to do. Engage the act, and then share your reflections with the group. Once you do, you'll be able to read others' experiences and encourage each other by commenting on their reflections. The collective peer-learning journey builds on each other's experience throughout our two weeks together.
Weekly Calls (+Guest Speaker!): Each week, we'll circle up for a live zoom call to soak in stories and learnings from our diverse experiences, and cheer each other on! In our midpoint call, we'll be joined by a special guest, Sharon Salzberg! Author of 11 books (including LovingKindness, Love Your Enemy, and Real Happiness at Work), founder of a pioneering meditation center, contributing editor of Oprah's O Magazine, and a renowned spiritual teacher for many around the globe, Sharon's visionary work has provided countless people with greater tools for wellbeing and collective goodwill. Here's a touching teaser from her journey: 5 Minutes with Sharon!
Dates: Our challenge will run from February 12 - 26th, with 11 unique prompts for acts of kindness. We'll have three 90-minute group video calls:
- February 12 (at this time) -- Orientation Call. Meet others embarking on the challenge, and learn how the challenge works!
- February 19 (at same time) -- Midpoint Call. Share reflections with fellow challenge participants, soak in inspiration from each other's stories, and more!
- February 26 (at same time) -- Closing Celebration!
