Jerry White: While hiking in Golan Heights as a twenty year old, a landmine explosion took away Jerry’s leg. That led him on a journey of self-discovery -- and eventually, a path of service. His tireless work led to high-impact global campaigns that led to major international treaties to ban landmines and uphold the rights of persons with disabilities. Along the way, he worked closely with the likes of Princess Diana and Queen Noor of Jordan, to address the humanitarian crisis caused by tens of millions of mines buried in over 80 countries. He shares in the 1997 Nobel Prize for Peace awarded to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, and most recently is writing a book on religious genocide. Bishop Swing: for over a quarter century, he served as the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California -- and was a pioneer in working with the homeless and counseled a US President around the AIDS epidemic. After hosting United Nations’ 50th anniversary service at Grace Cathedral in 1995, he conceived of United Religions and set off on a five-month quest with his wife, Mary, to introduce the cooperative idea to religious leaders of the world: the Pope, the Dalai Lama, Jerusalem’s Chief Rabbi, Egypt’s Grand Mufti and the Archbishop of Canterbury among them. Stunned by a lack of response, he decided to go directly to the people and started United Religions Initiative -- today, it works in over 100 countries and has become the world's largest grassroots interfaith organization!Opening
