"If you don't know where you are, you don't know who you are." --Wendell Berry
During the “Prayers for Ukraine” event, Myron shared his recent and ongoing work with Ukrainian and Russian students and healing professionals. His extensive study of trans-generational trauma and practice of healing have led him to significant insights around the power of place.
Join us for a conversation with Myron and global friends, around the shared inquiry: how do we connect with the power of a place? As he writes, "History is remembered in the land. The land holds the history and story of what was here, stories of human survival across generations. In Indigenous cultures, land shapes people as much as people shape land. Finding place and belonging helps people locate a sense of purpose. It is in this place of familiarity we call 'home' that we know safety."
Aboriginal people say that when the land is sick, the people are sick. How, then, might we heal places? During the call, we'll hear some stories about places, ways of listening into a place, and practice for bringing some healing to the history of a land. All participants will also be invited to reflect on places that were special to our childhood, how its change has affected us, and how we process and respond to those feelings.
Background: Myron Eshowsky is a mediator, shamanic healer, and community trauma healer, an author, and an educator. He has paternal roots in Ukraine and maternal roots in Russia. Myron actively serves refugee communities to help unravel trans-generational trauma. In Jordan, he co-created a trauma treatment, training, and services program for Syrian refugees pouring into Jordan to escape the violence in Syria, as there were no services available to address massive community trauma. The refugee issue is revisited with the 4 million plus that have fled Ukraine.
