Awakin Circles bring together small groups of people in living rooms around the world. In Mumbai, we've hosted such circles for many years now and are thrilled to be hosting a dear guest this month.
On Sunday, November 17th, we're delighted to host a circle at our home at Ghatkopar East, Mumbai, with Nipun Mehta and Lobsang Phuntsok.
- 5:30pm -- Sit Together in Silence
- 6:30pm -- Nipun and Lobsang's reflections/stories, Q&A
- 8:00pm -- Dinner + Hugs
If you'd like to join us, kindly RSVP below to help us plan dinner accordingly.
About Nipun: At the age of 25, Nipun Mehta quit his job to become a "full time volunteer." Originally, he embarked on a small experiment to deepen his alignment of meditation and service -- but much to his surprise, the ripples spread to millions, and was even applauded by the likes of Dalai Lama and President Obama. Still wary of being caught by "golden handcuffs" of impacting the world, Nipun and his wife embarked on a transformative walking pilgrimage across India with practically nothing. Deeply inspired by Gandhi, he speaks of a "Gandhi 3.0" possibility of distributed everyday heroes harmonizing via the "inner-net". Although he serves tirelessly, his life's mission statement is rather simple: "Bring smiles in the world and stillness in my heart."
About Lobsang: a former monk whose life is now dedicated to raising dozens of abandoned children in the remote Himalayas! He was the subject of an Emmy-winning documentary, Tashi and the Monk. "Everyone is an invited guest of the universe," Lobsang Phuntsok tells the children of his community. But the message he received as a child was that he was an uninvited guest -- unwanted, abandoned at birth by his mother -- until his grandparents found him and sent him to a monastery to free him from disturbing emotions. He eventually became one of 10 Buddhist monks selected by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to travel to the West to teach Buddhism. Now, he is the guardian of over 90 children in his ancestral region of India. Committed to raising these youth with love and compassion, he stewards the Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community as a large family, each child with unequivocal potential to become remarkable beings.
